The $TWTR hack: a lack of imagination

Posted On July 16, 2020
Twitter is probably the most interesting company in the world today. I mean that from both a strategy perspective and from an investment perspective. From a strategy perspective, I'm not sure there's ever been a company created so much value for its users and captured so little for itself (I liked the chart below from […]

Quickie idea / what am I missing: $PCG on bankruptcy emergence

Posted On June 29, 2020
This post is another in a series I plan do on an irregular basis. A “quickie” idea is an investment specific idea that I’ve been mulling over and find interesting, but haven’t dove fully into yet. The hope with this particular idea is to provide the jumping off point for a discussion of an idea I […]

Posted On June 11, 2020
Yesterday I saw perhaps the strangest (financial) press release I've ever seen. OneSpaWorld (OSW) issued a press release applauding Stifel for publishing a research report that acknowledged OSW did not have enough cash to pay down their revolver and remain solvent.

Some things and ideas: May 2020

Posted On May 29, 2020
Some random thoughts on articles that caught my attention in the last month. Note that I try to write notes on articles immediately after reading them, so there can be a little overlap in themes if an article grabs my attention early in the month and is similar to an article that I like later […]

Quickie Idea: one more preferred opportunity: $NYMT prefs

As a whole, this blog is meant to cover anything that's interesting to me in investing. Sometimes that means just general investing theory and thoughts (like the "monthly pondering" I post in each month's links post), but in general that means specific investing ideas and themes. And, over the life of this blog, no investing […]

Reviewing my three worst mistakes of the year: $QRTEA $I $SYNL $ANGI $IAC

Posted On December 13, 2019
It may be the middle of December, but the year is prepping to wrap up for me. I'm going on my honeymoon this afternoon, and while I have skillfully negotiated with my wife that I will be allowed to work a little during the honeymoon, there are limits to how much a man can negotiate....
