Weekend thoughts: 2024 podcasting and investor days

I used to do a yearly “state of the YAVB empire” post, where I’d lay out my vision for all the corners of my mini YAVB (Yet Another Value Blog) empire (the free side of the blog, the premium side, the podcast, and my two twitter accounts). I’m planning on bringing that post back for 2024….. though it might be slightly delayed until I have two free hands for typing (as I mentioned in my monthly links yesterday, I’m recovering from pec surgery and my left hand is immobilized. Also, a hearty thank you to everyone who wished me a speedy recovery!).

However, there is one area in particular I want to focus on in 2024, and I wanted to plant that flag early / have something I could link to in the future. That focus area is investor days…. specifically, I’d like to do a YAVP episode discussing interesting companies right after they host an investor day. The focus of the podcast (as all my podcasts are) would be discussing the investment thesis for the stock / company, but I think timing the podcast right after an investor day would create extra interest in both the podcast and the investor day as well as present some interesting extra questions to be asked / answered (plus having an investor day to review will make podcast prep much easier!).

So I’m planting the flag now: if a company you follow is hosting an investor day, reach out and let me know. If you’re a professional investor, I’d love to have you on the podcast to discuss it. I guarantee the podcast will be fun for both of us and that it will get the company / investor day in front of hundreds of new investors who otherwise would not have heard of the company. I think that’s as close to a win/win/win as it gets (alternatively, if the management team wants to join on the podcast post investor day, I could be open to that for the right management team and historically management team podcasts have been quite well received).

But even if you don’t want to do a podcast, reach out if there’s an interesting company with an investor day so I can try to get a pod on it (even if it’s just me talking to myself!).
